Do you like biking? Have you thought about a ride through the fabulous Blue Mountains? Their foothills start about 50 kilometres west of the city, and millions of people take day trips to this beautiful location every year. About ten times older than America’s famous Grand Canyon, Europeans settlers first found their way to the mountains in 1813. It was in 1932 that the mountains turned into a national park, and in 2000 the Blue Mountains were recognised as Australia’s 14th World Heritage Site.

If you’re looking for Blue Mountain adventure activities, why not try a day of mountain biking with Blue Mountain Bikes Australia. We’ve been in business since 2012 giving people self-guided tours of these gorgeous mountains on trails that we’ve identified as friendly to the beginner and the more experienced biker. If you don’t have a mountain bike but are still interested in Blue Mountain activities, we rent both bikes and gear for individuals or groups who are looking for an afternoon’s or a day’s ride checking out the many scenic Blue Mountain attractions.

So many Blue Mountain attractions

This area has not always been called the Blue Mountains. Governor Arthur Philips named it the Carmarthen and Lansdowne Hills in 1788. When seen from Sydney, however, the cliffs looked to be coloured blue, and the entire area seems to have a blue haze. At the time, people thought this was the result of the eucalypt trees that cover the mountains but is it the result of The Rayleigh Scattering, an optical effect caused by the sun’s ultra-violet rays. So, as in many other similar cases in history, the name given to a location by local inhabitants took hold in the imagination over the “official’ name.

Some of the many Blue Mountain attractions include taking a scenic cable car ride to see the famous Three Sisters section of the Blue Mountains. You can also visit the new Blue Mountains Cultural Centre in Katoomba. There are the ten different caves of the Jenolan Caves. There are also dozens of fun and friendly hiking and mountain hiking trails in the Blue Mountains. If you and a group of friends are interested in a day’s self-guided tour of one of many scenic and biker-friendly tours in the Blue Mountains, we’re the people you want to see.
